RTX 3060 Relaunch in 2026: What It Actually Costs

NVIDIA relaunched the RTX 3060 12GB at $329 in June 2026, and the shortage behind it has since pushed street prices past $450. Still worth buying?

NVIDIA relaunched the RTX 3060 12GB in late June 2026. Same Ampere chip (GA106, Samsung 8nm), same 12GB GDDR6, same 192-bit bus — but with a fresh warranty. The reason is straightforward: the RTX 5050 with its 9GB of GDDR7 got shelved due to memory shortages, and NVIDIA needed something to sell at the entry level.

It arrived at $329, not the ~$200 the pre-launch reporting suggested — and then the same shortage that brought the card back pushed it higher. Within two months the MSI Ventus model that launched at $329.99 was listed at $479.99, a rise of about 45%. Some models, Gigabyte among them, still sit at $329-339. So the honest answer to “what does it cost” is a range that depends on which card you find, not a single figure.

The question for AI users: is a 2020-era GPU worth $330 in 2026 — and is it still worth it at $480?

What the RTX 3060 12GB can actually run

The 3060’s strength for AI has always been its 12GB of VRAM. That number matters more than clock speed, CUDA core count, or architecture generation for most inference tasks.

WorkloadRTX 3060 12GBStatus
Stable Diffusion 1.5Runs wellFull speed
SDXL (512-1024px)Runs well8-12 GB usage
Flux.1 Dev (FP16)Too largeNeeds 14+ GB
Flux.1 Dev (NF4/GGUF)Works6-8 GB, slower
7B LLM (Q4 GGUF)Works~6 GB VRAM
13B LLM (Q4 GGUF)Tight~10-11 GB
LoRA training (SDXL)WorksBatch size limited
Dreambooth fine-tuningWorksSmall models only

The card handles Stable Diffusion SDXL without issue. It runs 7B parameter LLMs comfortably in quantized formats. It cannot run Flux at full FP16 precision — that needs 14+ GB — but NF4 quantized Flux works at reduced speed.

Relaunch vs used: how big is the warranty premium now?

Used RTX 3060 12GB cards average around $250 on eBay, with listings from roughly $240 up. The relaunch model is the same silicon with a factory warranty, so the only question is what that warranty costs — and the answer moved.

  • At the $329 relaunch price, the premium over used is about $80. That is a reasonable price for warranty coverage, a guaranteed non-mined card, and retail returns.
  • At $450-480, the premium is over $200, and the comparison stops being about warranties — see the table below, because at that point you are in RTX 4060 Ti 16GB territory.

Note that used prices did not fall after the relaunch, which is what you would normally expect. The shortage lifted the whole 12GB segment at once.

For AI workloads specifically, mining wear is less of a concern than gaming — AI inference does not stress the same thermal cycles as 24/7 Ethereum mining.

How it compares to alternatives

GPUVRAMPriceArchitectureBest For
RTX 3060 12GB (relaunch)12GB GDDR6$329-480AmpereBudget SDXL + 7B LLMs
RTX 3060 12GB (used)12GB GDDR6~$250AmpereThe same card, no warranty
RTX 4060 Ti 16GB16GB GDDR6~$425Ada LovelaceFlux FP16, 13B LLMs
RTX 5060 Ti16GB GDDR7~$630BlackwellFlux FP16, 13B LLMs
RTX 3090 (used)24GB GDDR6X~$820AmpereEverything under 24GB

That table is the whole argument, and it changed with the price. At $329 the 3060 is the cheapest new 12GB card and the comparison is straightforward. Near $480 it is within $55 of an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, which has 4GB more VRAM, a newer architecture, and clears the 16GB bar that Flux at FP16 and comfortable 13B inference both need. There is no AI workload where paying more for less VRAM makes sense, so above roughly $400, buy the 4060 Ti instead.

The RTX 5060 Ti at ~$630 adds GDDR7 and Blackwell tensor cores with FP8/FP4 support — roughly 2x the AI performance of the 3060 — but it is now nearly double the 4060 Ti, which is a hard sell when both carry 16GB.

If you can stretch to $820, the used RTX 3090 remains the value king for serious AI work. Its 24GB runs everything the 3060 cannot — Flux at full precision, 13B+ LLMs, and larger training batches.

Which GPU should you buy?

Who should buy the RTX 3060 relaunch

Buy it if: you can find one near the $329 relaunch price, you primarily run SDXL or 7B LLMs, and you want a new card with a warranty.

Buy the used one instead if: you are comfortable inspecting a card and the new listings in front of you are above $400 — at that gap you are paying more than $150 for the warranty alone.

Skip the 3060 entirely if: the only listings you can find are near $480 (get the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB at ~$425 — more VRAM, newer architecture, less money), you need Flux at full precision (needs 16GB+), or you can stretch to a used RTX 3090.

The RTX 3060 12GB is not exciting hardware in 2026, and the relaunch has not made it cheap. What it still is, at the right price, is the least expensive new card with 12GB of VRAM — and that 12GB threshold is what opens the door to real work with Stable Diffusion and small LLMs. The price you pay decides whether that argument holds.
